Virat Kohli’s heroics at the MCG were repeated by Tim David in Wellington.

MCG heroics were repeated in Wellington as middle-order batsman Tim David scored 31* off just 10 balls to win the game for Australia. David hit 2 fours and 3 towering sixes in his brief innings and led his team to victory.

David came into bat when Australia were 172/4 and they still needed 44 runs from 19 balls. Captain Mitchell Marsh is with him at the other end. When Australia needed 28 off just 8 balls, David hit 2 consecutive sixes to reduce the situation to ’16 off 6 balls’. The situation is reminiscent of the India-Pakistan match in T20 World Cup 2022 at MCG when Virat Kohli won the game for India.

This time it was Tim David’s turn to become the hero. Only 4 runs came off the first three balls of Tim Southee’s last over, making the equation even more difficult. With 4 runs needed off the last ball, the tall Australian batsman showed courage by hitting boundaries over deep midwicket and long on to win the game for his team.

Earlier, Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway scored half-centuries to post New Zealand 215/3. In reply, Australia got off to a good start with the partnership of David Warner and Travis Head. Captain Mitchell Marsh led the innings with 72 off 44 balls with 7 sixes and 2 fours.

Glenn Maxwell made quick cameos in the middle but eventually Tim David’s innings proved to be the difference. Australia is leading 1-0 in the three T20I series.
