In a historic performance, Pathum Nissanka has become the first Sri Lankan cricketer to achieve a double century in One Day International (ODI) cricket.
This remarkable feat occurred during the initial ODI against Afghanistan in Pallekele, where Nissanka not only secured a double hundred but also claimed the third-fastest record for achieving this milestone in ODIs, achieving it in just 136 balls.

Breaking Sanath Jayasuriya’s enduring record for the highest score by a Sri Lankan cricketer in ODIs, Nissanka sealed his double century by hitting a six off the fifth ball of the 49th over and a boundary off the second ball of the final over.
His unbeaten innings of 210 runs in 139 balls included an impressive display of 20 fours and eight sixes.
While Ishan Kishan holds the record for the fastest ODI double century with 126 balls against Bangladesh in 2022, Nissanka’s accomplishment places him among an elite group of 10 cricketers who have achieved this milestone in ODIs.
